CSCI101 students: 

THE MIDTERM EXAM
================

The midterm exam is a 2 hour written exam.

*** Students must bring their student cards
for inspection before the exam. ***

The midterm exam is worth 30% of the final grade. 

Students must attain an overall passing grade on
the weighted average of the two exams in the course 
in order to obtain a clear pass (C or better).

The midterm exam will focus on the topics covered in the 
first part of the course (before midterm):

C++ fundamentals,
input, output, assignments
decisions, repetition
program development, documentation
procedural abstraction and functions
value and reference parameters



This material is covered in Chapters 1 - 5.

The midterm exam will be composed of a mix of questions:

Part 1 of the exam is made up of 
30 multiple choice questions
worth 1% each to a total of 30%.

Part 2 of the exam is made up of 
20 true/false questions
worth 1% each to a total of 20%.

Part 3 of the exam is composed of a number 
of predict-the-output or short-answer questions 
worth a total of 20%. 

Part 4 of the exam is composed of 
three written questions worth a total of 30%.

The written questions may include questions
requiring an essay-type answer. An example of
this type of question is:
"Explain what is meant by the term procedural abstraction".

The written questions may involve locating errors
in the code provided, or writing a short C++ program or function.
Note: comments are NOT required in programs written for an exam,
unless explicitly requested. 

For Parts 3 and 4 of the exam, marks will be awarded for
partially correct answers.
